Hey lovely Technical Discussion forum lurkers. Today I installed Windows 7 x64 and have been enjoying it immensely, but now I can't get on the Sims 3 Store. Every time I try to load up store.thesim3.com or or the daily deal, I get this error popup: This page requires ACRunActiveContent.js Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?
I've been Googling it for hours and now I'm starting to get an headache and be very frustrated. I'm using Google Chrome, but I also get the error in IE9, Firefox and Opera. I've got Adobe AIR, Adobe Shockwave, Adobe Reader (hehe), Java and of course Flash. Things I've tried: - Cleared Browsing Data (including cache of course, several times) - Disabled Anti-virus (I'm only using Microsoft Security Essentials) - Diasbled Firewall (using Windows Firewall) - Tried the following suggestion, without success. You have your internet settings set not to allow active content to run and, it must be allowed for the store to work. It is set under control panel, internet options, advanced tab.
- Contacted Live Help Chat. The first person didn't help and then escalated me to tier 2. Which is taking ages. Live Help told me clear my Temp files, which didn't help. Live Help then asked me to try a clean boot, which didn't help and upset me because I waited 40+ mins to chat to a tier 2 rep. After that, I decided to contact them on my Husband's PC - When I contacted them for the 2nd time, I was told to do a clean boot again. When that didn't help the Rep transferred me to tier 2 again.
So now I'm waiting again. Feel free to read the following but this problem is not actually resolved.
See comments While waiting for the tier 2 rep, I resolved this issue myself. The short story (RESOLUTION): Using Select Language at the bottom of the page, I changed my language to German.
Then I went to and voila. The store suddenly started working. I changed my language back to English and everything is still working fine. I am located in Germany, but I like to read this site in English. If you're in another country and having this problem, try doing this with your own country's Sims 3 store and Language. It only takes a few minutes, even if doesn't work.
See comments for the long version of this story. I feel the need to share it since I worked so hard on this. UPDATE: Just to follow up on this, the Store worked perfectly for me during the day the next day. But then around 19:00 or so, it started to give me issues, and then I eventually got the same error: This page requires ACRunActiveContent.js I think, at least in my case, the error might have to do with the traffic load on site, and probably also maintenance, which the store was scheduled to go through the day. It's 8:30 in the morning where I live right now and the store has never run better.
Maybe I won't get the error again tonight as well. Anyhow, if you do get the error, might as well try the language thing and if that doesn't work, I don't know. Waiting might be in order, depending on how long/often you've been getting it.
You need the flash plugin to allow that content. Go get Flash player. Thanks for the reply, but that wasn't the problem.
I have flash player, and Google Chrome comes with flash player and is always updated. I have finally resolved this issue. I had to change my language settings to German and then change them back English.
That's what I had to do. Then I did it on my husband's computer and the store started working on his computer as well. 5 hours wasted for this. Sigh I'll update the original post when I finish eating. Well, at least you figured it out and got it to run.
5 hours, I'd be flustrated too. I think I Won't update to win 7 (until I get a new computer that has it on there).
In all fairness, I highly doubt it is Windows 7's fault. If anyone is to blame it is Adobe and/or possibly EA, and my own fault (technically) for not starting with my own region and then switching to English. But yeah, I'm really glad I figured it out even though it took up basically all of my free time today. In my post I promised to share the long version of the story, so here it is in list form for easier following. I don't think anybody cares to read it but after all I went though, I feel the need to share anyhow.
The Long story: While waiting for the second tier 2 rep, I: - Uninstalled every browser, every Adobe product, and Java. Then ran a registry cleaner and cleaned everything up. Rebooted the computer and launched IE9. Naturally, thesims3.com doesn't look great without flash player, so I installed that. As expected, the store still didn't work (duh, of course.
Picked up Chrome beta instead of regular Chrome. Installed Java. At this point I still couldn't use the store, but I had decided to check the German forums here to see if any Germans had an issue. The Germans didn't really have more information, but I decided to check the German store and lo and behold, it worked. Changed my language back to English, and it kept working. So then I went to my husband's computer, which also couldn't access the store.
I changed his language to German and went to the German store, and worked. He was using the latest release of Chrome (not beta). I just want to point out that checking the German store was one of the first things I did, I just didn't think one step further to change my language as well. Also, right as I was reinstalling Java, I finally got a tier 2 rep, which was just a few moments before I solved the problem myself.
I didn't tell the rep what I did to fix the problem, because I wasn't 100% sure myself then. Uninstalling and Re-installing Java could have helped a lot. But all I did on my husband's computer was to change the language settings and it worked out fine. So, hopefully if anyone else is having this problem, this will help them as well. This is not resolved at all. In fact, it is almost like clockwork. As I approach early evening (CET) the store gets slower and slower, until it will not load at all and eventually starts throwing the ACRunActiveContent.js error.
Once peak hours (what I assume) for the site are over, I can access the store again as if nothing had ever happened. As you can imagine, on Thursdays this will be especially irritating as I will probably not be able to even view a handful of deals. This may in fact be related to windows 7, since I didn't have these problems before. But aren't there other Win7 x64 users out there that don't have this problem? Surely, if all Win7 x64 users had this problem, EA would fix it. Or maybe I am too optimistic about that.
I'd say the majority of people out there run windows 7 64 bit now.(I still have windows vista 32 bit ). It seems to me (just an observation) that people who had a Different OS before, usually vista, and then put windows 7 on that same computer seem to have weird problems that are difficult to solve. So I wish I had an answer for you and I don't. Just an FYI, the regular tech section (right below 'general') at the top of the forums, seems to get a lot more attention from some techy people and also gurus, you might try a post there.
Or you might try a google of your specific issue with emphasis on the install of windows 7. I'd say the majority of people out there run windows 7 64 bit now.(I still have windows vista 32 bit ).

I have googled with windows 7 in the search terms as well actually, but as of yet, I haven't found anything helpful, at least helpful to me.
All the information out there seems to point to a problem on the website's end. I actually got a new hard drive when I got windows 7, so win 7 was installed onto a completely empty drive. Thanks for the response, I really appreciate it Edit: I'm going to see if I get the problem tonight and if I do, I'll post on the the other tech forums. I also posted on the Google Chrome forums but I haven't gotten an helpful information from there.
There seems to be a problem on the part of the store website. I was looking here to see if other people have also problems with the store like some people from the German site have. Without any changes or updates on my part, I have sometimes normal access to the store, then it does not finish loading the site, it gives me the already mentioned error message, it is loading and loading but nothing happens. While I seem to have not problem in the morning time, the problems starts around 15:00 German time, that is, when the Daily Deal starts. Well, maybe EA is worring about that we spend too much money on store stuff or they don't want us to purchase Daily Deals but pay full price.:twisted.

Perhaps I should take another look over there. Yeah, you're right.
It is starting already at 15:00. In the morning, I can load up the store super fast, view my purchase history, etc. But already by 15:00 the store will not load properly. Now it is 17:45 and I am getting the ACRunActiveContent.js error. Edit: I posted in the German thread and have made another thread in the other Tech forum here, like zorba2357 suggested. I really hate being limited with when I use the store. I can't gift people daily deals, or even just randomly.
Nor can I make random impulse purchases when I'm feeling upset about something! (that's probably for the better I suppose).
